FD Algorithm Information
What wave propagation features can we model?
The No-Compromise 3D Seismic Modeling can simulate all wave propagation processes and effects. The model is specified as a dense 3D grid of velocity and density. The modeling is only limited by the features put in the model. For help in building complex models, please contact us.
The shot gather below demonstrates several complex wave propagation effects from the modeling, especially multiples and near surface scattering.
The seismic modeling is currently subject to isotropic and acoustic assumptions. We are working to relax these assumptions. A recent study with the elastic Marmousi-2 model comparing elastic and acoustic modeling from the same model (the acoustic modeling runs didn't use the Vs model) shows that elastic modeling does not significantly alter the pressure field component compared with the acoustic results. Hence, it appears that acoustic modeling works surprisingly well for the pressure component.
